Testimony, Trustworthiness, and Epistemic Justice: Themes at the Intersection of Ethics and Epistemology

In this event, Veniz Guzman discusses Miranda Fricker’s thought on testimonial injustice and credibility in Epistemic Injustice: Power and the Ethics of Knowing (2007), while Lily Beth Lumagbas speaks about Onora O’Neill’s essay, “The quest for trustworthiness,” in Autonomy and Trust in Bioethics (2004).

About the speakers:

Veniz Maja V. Guzman is currently taking up their PhD in Philosophy at De La Salle University. They are writing their dissertation on the intersection between knowledge and moral duty in the context of sexual violence. Their research interests include epistemic injustice and epistemic responsibility. They also love fairy tales, magic, and cats.

Lily Beth Lumagbas is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. She received her PhD in TransGlobal Health and Pharmacovigilance-Social Epidemiology from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and University of Bordeaux-Segalen. France, respectively, in 2017. She works on topics in bioethics, poverty, and neuroethics. Her current research is on the ethics of space and community care.
