Talking about Misogyny in the Classroom: Notes on Teaching Kate Manne’s Down Girl

BTG webinar no. 2 recorded video - 20 March 2021

In Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny (2017), Kate Manne offers an ameliorative proposal for understanding misogyny, one that improves upon its common, naive definition as “hatred of women.” Through her analysis, she gives insight into the hostility and violence that women typically face in patriarchal environments. Our speakers introduce Kate Manne’s work and share their experiences in discussing aspects of her work in the classroom using different philosophical lenses.
