In this talk, Dr. Rowena Azada-Palacios (Ateneo de Manila University) will be discussing her book, Postcolonial Education and National Identity: An Arendtian Re-Imagination (forthcoming from Bloomsbury), with Dr. Kelly Agra (University of the Philippines-Baguio) as her interlocutor.
The event is co-sponsored and co-organized by DLSU’s Department of Philosophy, as the first of the revived Pink Bag Lectures, a series of talks by women philosophers.
Speaker bionotes
Rowena “Rowie” Azada-Palacios is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Ateneo de Manila University. In the academic year 2024-2025, she will also be a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Edinburgh. Her research lies at the intersection of political philosophy and education, with a focus on questions surrounding social justice, decoloniality, and the pedagogical relationship. Her book Postcolonial Education and National Identity: An Arendtian Reimagination, due to be published by Bloomsbury Academic in November 2024, was based on the doctoral research that she completed at University College London in 2021.
Kelly Agra is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of the Philippines Baguio. She recently earned her doctorate at the University College Dublin. Her Ph.D. research, which falls within the intersection of Critical Theory and Social Epistemology is entitled: “Epistemic Paralysis and Non-recognition: The Case of (Mis)education.”Kelly is specifically interested in decolonial and feminist critiques of knowledge and society.
